DOTA 2 is a 2013 multiplayer online battle arena video game and a sequel of DOTA (Defense of the Ancients). This was developed by Valve Corporation, DOTA 2 was released as a free-to-play game in the middle of July 2013, concluding a Windows-only public BETA testing phase that began in 2011. Since the game has been released by the Valve Corporation in the mid 2013, many tournaments have been held in most computer shops around the world and this game was considered to be the “best online computer game”. However as time passes, a lot of youngsters have become obsessed and influenced by the game. Complaints about the game of being a bad habit scattered around the Philippines. Thus, DOTA 2 influences players to become aggressive and violent. The game causes violence because of criticism which most players say to one another during times when they are losing, losing the game and the way they feel about not being able to get better results in the game that they want. Another reason is when players have unskilled players or “noobs”, as they call it, as their allies which causes them to be aggressive thus causing them to become violent. A barangay in Dasmariñas City has issued a resolution banning DOTA 2 in computer shops within its jurisdiction. According to Resolution 008-S-2015 dated January 5, 2015, issued by the Barangay Council of Salawag, Dota was being banned because it had already become a tool for gambling and was causing discord in the community. The resolution, which was written in Filipino, added that Dota was inducing the youth in their barangay to become violent to the point of committing murder. It said that because of Dota’s “bad influence,” the young were “They are becoming violent and are learning to deceive, steal.” It added, “It is not a far possibility for them to kill or be killed just to play.” A copy of the resolution has been circulated in social media.
