‘Model Minority’ and Its Negative Effects The label of being a ‘model minority’ negatively affects the lives of Asian Americans in many aspects. Specifically discussing about the ‘all Asians are smart’ stereotype, it hurts the mental health of Asian American high school students. They are affected by this stereotype because it suggests they do not need additional help and being put under greater pressure of performing well academically. Asian American students should have more access to mental health services to combat the problems they face from the stereotype to do well in school.
