Does the social media bring more harm than good to you? “Social media is the collective of online communications channels dedicated to community-based input, interaction, content-sharing and collaboration” (Rouse,2016). There are many forms of social media ranging from websites, forums, blogs and many more. Although social media has been beneficial for us regardless of our age, it has brought about many consequences as well.
Some people argue that social media is good for us because it has allowed us to widen our social circles. (Wallace)2014 said that “in the survey of more than 1,000 13- to 17-year-olds about how they view their digital lives, 28% said social networking made them feel more outgoing versus 5% who said it made them feel less so; and 29% said it made them feel less shy versus the 3% who said it made them feel more introverted.” To me, this is the case in our current generation. For instance, In Singapore, “those aged between 16 and 30 - spend an average of one day a week, or 3.4 hours per day, on their mobile phones, according to a study conducted by global research consultancy TNS.” (Lee ,2015). This shows that many people are being hooked to the social media. They just cannot seem to move away from it as they will tend to have a withdrawal symptoms after a short while. It is so bad to the extent that; social media has become a need in our lives. It feels as though something is missing in our lives without social media. Social media has become a priority over anything else. We will spend more time using social media instead of interacting with families and friends. This addiction could cause families and friendships to be broken due to the lack of interaction. When we are addicted to social media, we will tend to keep to ourselves and not talk to anybody which makes us antisocial. Therefore, social media is more harmful for us as it leads to an
