All children are different so it is the parent’s responsibility to determine whether or not their children can handle the different media. Some media critics believe that violent cartoons, video games, movies etc. are good for children. Gerard Jones gives an example in his essay “Violent media is good for kids” which he explains how violent media can be good for children, Jones explains his point by giving an example of his son. Jones tells how he exposed his son to marvel comics which helped him in his kindergarten experience. The marvel characters gave Jones’s son the desire of “transforming himself into a bloodthirsty dinosaur to embolden himself for the plunge into preschool” (373).
In the United States there are over 400 places that the National Parks Service (NPS) protects. In Katy Steinmetz’s article “A Monumental Fight” she give some background on how the dispute over the national funding of parks started. What would happen to the world if kids of any age were able to watch any movie, listen to any song, and create any art they wanted? Well for starters, that would never happen, but that would be complete freedom, right? Artists, just like regular people, have their own individual opinions, but unlike regular people, some artist face censorship when expressing their ideas. In Artistic Freedom, Holden, the main character of J. D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye, originally feels that art should be censored because it could be considered harmful to children’s mindsets.
Some shows and movies on Netflix have a label in a corner that censors them from the content they have. Those in charge often censor material that they think is objectionable because of the images or information they provide people with. The GISD school board has been considering censoring the book Night by Elie Weisel. Night is a nonfiction novel by Elie Weisel that depicts the author’s own experiences while being placed in a concentration camp during the Holocaust in WWII. The school board believes in censoring and banning the book Night by Elie Wiesel because of violence and the explicit events, however, if the GISD school board bans the book it will take away from students learning on past events and the consequences of those events.

The 1850’s to 1860’s was a crucial decade that had detrimental effects on the unity of the country. Many events agitated and aroused secession of the South from the North and divided the country in two. The country’s highly divided views between the Northerners and Southerners could no longer be mended, and Southern states could only see secession as the most viable option. The greatest controversy that ruptured the unity of the country were the opposing views on slavery; the events that occurred in this decade, as well as the fear that the Southerners had toward the potential abolition of slavery in America was enough for them to leave the union and is what lead to the bloody battle of the Civil War. As America continued to advance and flourish geographically and economically, the country began dividing itself between Southern states that supported and relied heavily on slave labor, and Northern states that were more opposed to slavery.
Have you ever realized how far the 1920s were away from now? How different everything was and what all they created and repealed. For instance, the Prohibition Act and its faults that it had caused. Such as the dividing of the Nation, becoming the Dry’s and the Wet’s argument, speakeasies, crime rates went up extremely, etc. How many females and organizations were behind the movement, like the anti-saloon league, the Methodist board, and the main group behind it, the Women’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU).
Ever since its publication in 1960, it has also been one of the books most frequently challenged by would-be censors.” (Johnson-Durst) When this book is read in schools it can make the students
Jackson: Good or Evil Andrew Jackson had a negative impact on the formation of our country. Opinions are very disputed over Jackson, whether he is liked or disliked. On one hand, some believe he was a great president and contributed to our country remarkably. On the other hand, he murdered men in duels, went against the Supreme Court, and forced hundreds of Native Americans to leave their homeland just because of a gold rush. Although Jackson did many things for our country, his atrocious actions outnumber his positive impacts staining this “great” president’s legacy.
During the periods of 1900 to 1912, the federal government and the Progressive Era reformers were able to bring limited change. This time period was when the U.S. desired to improve life in the industrial age by creating social improvements and political changes through government action. The Progressive Era reformers and the federal government support reforms as to limit the control of voting rights for women, trusts, improve sanitation, and enact child labor laws. Although they both managed to establish a precedent for more active roles in the federal government and managed to improve the quality of life, there were inevitable negative effects that occurred due to the Progressive movement. The efforts had both successes and limitations.
