When does Life Begin?
A woman finds out she is pregnant; she rejoices or she worries. These initial reactions occur because there is a life that is forming inside of her. These women know that from that moment on, their own life will never be the same. There is a tiny human being growing inside, but at what moment is that life truly considered a life? This is a question that has been asked all through time, but here recently it has been one of the hottest topics in the media. Today’s access to technology, science, and the media really has made this question more of a philosophical and bioethical stance rather than a scientific stance. In modern day, the argument has really become: when life has begun vs when personhood has began. Both scientific evidence and Biblical evidence states that from the moment of fertilization, life begins. Bioethics have stepped in to many people’s train of thoughts during the pregnancy stage. When the Bible, God’s word, says that the human life begin from the beginning, then it is true. When the Scientific evidence, says that the human life begins from the beginning of fertilization, then it is true. It is hard to argue against the two strongest and most reliable sources in life, especially when they do indeed say the same thing. Life begins in the womb, from 46 carefully crafted and chosen chromosomes. As soon as fertilization occurs, which is when science claims a human being is an individual with enough DNA to be an individual, this human being truly is an individual person, with thoughts and a life to live.
