The main role of a law enforcement officer is to prevent crime and ensure the safety of others. I have always had great respect for the men and women in uniform and have always had the desire to become part of that. When I was fifteen years old I joined the Montville Township Police Explorers, which motivated me to pursue a career as a law enforcement officer. This experience showed me what it takes to become an officer and the dangers that it entails.
There are many challenges that law enforcement officers face on a day to day basis to ensure the safety of the people around them. One of the key issues that law enforcement officers face today is a negative portrayal of how the media views them. The media often shows law enforcement officers in a negative image. The media fails to show the thousands of positive impacts that law enforcement officers have on society. Most media outlets create stories without knowing all of the details and information behind the case which depicts these officers in a negative way. First, I will set a positive example when I am working as well as when I am off-duty. I will exemplify characteristics such as generosity, compassion and will always be ready to lend a helping hand to a person in need. Next, I will be active in the community that I am serving; whether this is by attending community events, running 5k’s to benefit local charities or speaking to local schools. I want to be seen as a positive influence in the community while serving and protecting those around me. To know that they always have someone there that is willing to risk their life for the life of others. Lastly, I will always remember that no one is above the law, as I will be there to enforce
