The movie A Civil Action was about a group of parents whose children had developed leukemia. Some of the children died due to leukemia. Therefore Anne Anderson, who played a big role in this movie gathered all of the victim’s parents to seek legal advice from lawyers, but not a lot of lawyers were willing to touch the case due to the fact that there is little evidence and it could cost them a lot of money in the long run, if the case goes to trial. Jan Schlichtmann decided to pick the case and use the elements of negligence. In order to do that he had to prove that those hazardous wastes would somehow end up from one place and into the river, which is really hard to prove. Schlichtmann got them settlement money after all their expenses and other things were taken out, but she said that “It is not about money.” From the very beginning she said that she just wants the people that are responsible for their children’s deaths to apologize to them and not to do what they are doing. It was never about the money to begin with. When lawyers see big cases like these they think that the case screams “money” in this case it was. There were many chances were as they could of have gotten big settlement money, but as the movie went on Schlichtmann wanted more for the families. He wanted justice for them. The tag line “Justice has a price” means that if you want justice and you would have to pay for it. That’s what happened to Schlichtmann, he paid the price. Schlichtmann wanted justice and kept going forward even though he didn’t have the necessary funds to continue the case and in the end he lost everything just for the sake of “justice.” I’m fine with the way Schlichtmann was thinking because at the end of the movie he said if he had the opportunity to go back in time he would do the same thing over again and again. Schlichtmann saying that at the end of the movie makes me realize that he didn’t regret a single thing he did or losing everything he had for chasing after
