World War II was fought between two groups of countries: the allies and the axis. The leaders of the allies were Franklin Roosevelt from the U.S, Winston Churchill from Great Britain, and Joseph Stalin from the Soviet Union. The leaders of the Axis were Adolf Hitler from Germany, Emperor Hirohito from Japan, and Benito Mussolini from Italy. The Axis wanted to destroy the Soviet Union and they supported each other's goal for territorial expansion. Countries from the axis surrendered to the allies and that helped them defeat the axis.
