“That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” This is a famous quote by Neil Armstrong, the first person to touch the moon. It took him his whole life for it. It started in his first plane ride, then he took lessons then he worked for NASA. After coming down, he was awarded medals for being the first person on the moon.
Neil Armstrong was born on August 5th, 1930 in Wapakoneta Ohio, to Stephen and Viola Armstrong. When he was about 6 years old he got his first plane ride in a plane, called the Tri-Motor. He fought in the Korean war and between 1951-1952. During that time, he flew 78 missions. During one of the missions, Neil got caught in an enemy trap. Neil jumped just in time and landed in a meadow of corn. When Neil was done with the army, he went to collage in Indiana. He learned more about flying. When he graduated, he got a job at NASA.
Neils first job at NASA was to dock two ships together. When Neil’s ship was inches away from docking to a broken ship, is ship started to spin out of control. When Neil knew that the ship was spinning, he told NASA that he was coming back down. After that, Neil ran several more missions.
The job at NASA that was the most famous for Neil, was the Apollo 11 mission. That was the mission that sent Neil up into space. When the Apollo was about to land, it would land on a rough piece of land. With only a minute left of fuel, Neil took control of the controls and landed the ship with 30 seconds left. Neil got lucky to be the first one on the moon because Buzz Aldrin was in the bathroom when the ship landed. If he hadn't been in the bathroom, Neil wouldn’t be so famous. When Neil came back down, everyone cheered for
