The top of the social hierarchy at the time were the white South Africans. They held control from the government and kept the other groups in a constant state of oppression. Yes, racism was probably still around in those parts of the world and the time period, but it 's possible that it wasn 't as harsh as the United States was; this stopped the non-racist people from marrying who they want to.

People all over the world struggle with being looked down upon or having rights that have taken away because of racism, which can cause violence anywhere. In order for non-violence to be successful, the movement needs to have discipline, courage, then leadership because how you handle a situation is how you eliminate the problem, discrimination.
