The academy of Neonatal Nursing was established on February 6, 2011. This organization originates in Petaluma, California but due Internet activity it is now located worldwide. This particular association is entitled to neonatal nurses, ran by executive director Debbie Fraser (“About Us” 2013.). The academies mission statement is crucial in prolonging the lives of premature infants. Its main goal is to provide quality education and programs to many Neonatal health care professionals at an affordable cost. The members of this organization participate in national conferences, online resources, reviewed publications, and many other educational events that aim to provide exceptional care to neonatal infants (“About Us” 2013. para 1). In order to become a member of this academy a small annual fee of $95 is necessary along with an interest or a degree in neonatal health care (“Membership” 2013. para 1). According to their conference minutes, they travel around the world helping NICU’s advance their quality of care. An ANN conference in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 8-11, 2013 addressed the issue of peripherally inserting central catheters (PICC). A group of members from this organization collected and analyzed the complications associated with the way these catheters were applied. After reviewing they worked with professionals and provided educational techniques to the neonatal health professionals working in this Minneapolis, Minnesota Children’s Hospital. These techniques resulted in insertion of the PICC first try, reduction of the stress and length of the procedure, increased the ability to preserve veins, lowered the cost of administration, and dramatically decreased the risk of infection located in the bloodstream from these catheter complications (Chen, 2013, para
