Diseases of the nervous system Throughout life the nervous system remains plastic although some of its capacity does diminish with advancing age. Changes in the nervous system consist of a loss of sensory cells and neurons of the peripheral sensory organs. In particular there is a loss of sight, memory and hearing, but sense of equilibrium and joint sense also deteriorate with advancing age. As well as diminishing effect due to advancing age the nervous system can suffers from several diseases. These diseases emphasize how important the mechanics of the nervous system are. Dementia is one of the diseases of the nervous system, and it is particularly common in older people. It is the result of extensive damage to the connections of the cerebral cortex and neurons. This damage prevents efficient conduction of impulses as a result dementia patients suffer from memory loss, impaired judgment and a Loss of communication skills. It causes damage to the sheaths of nerve cells in the brain, spinal cord, and the optic nerves in the eyes. Initially, Multiple sclerosis occurs when your immune system, which generally attack viruses, attack part of the body. This happens when the disease becomes active and the T cells in the immune system primarily, attack the myelin sheath made from fatty material, which mantles the nerve fibres in the brain and spinal cord. This therefore results in small patches of inflammation, which causes a disruption in the mechanics of the nervous system. The symptoms for Multiple sclerosis are subjective to the individual; however the common indications include balance, loss of vision and uncontrollable muscle
