Network Security Vulnerabilities Introduction Columbine Savings Bank, a small regional bank located in Jefferson County Colorado, is looking to expand its offerings to enable customers access to their accounts online providing the ability to check account information and complete transactions remotely. AK Technologies has been contracted to identify possible security threats associated with deploying a private network allowing remote access to customer accounts. After possible security threats have been indentified Columbine Savings Bank will need to decide if the benefits of online banking outweigh the potential risks to the security of its institution and its customers. The long term goal for Columbine Savings Bank is to protect sensitive information while making it readily available to its organization and its customers. To reduce the risk of potential threats Columbine Savings Bank will need to enforce strict protocol for password authentication for its customer base. Passwords will need to adhere to strict criteria to limit the potential for outside forces to simply guess a user password. Users will also be required to update passwords on a regular basis and provide additional authentication when logging into their account from an unrecognized device. This authentication will be provided by the bank server to the user’s email address or via secure text message to the phone number provided by the user during their initial registration. By enforcing these protocols Columbine Savings Bank can reduce the risk of security threats for both its business and customer
