A neuropsychologist is a person who studies the brain. The brain is the most complicated part of the human body and it falls on a neuropsychologist to study and analysis it. They study how the brain affects anything from how it influences ones behavior to how injuries influence the brain change. The roots of neuropsychology date back to the nineteenth century, and the papers and research were written in German so many were unreadable. Neuropsychology died for many years until after World War II. With all the veterans coming home from after the war with head injuries, the field of neuropsychology exploded. Once that happens then you have to obtain a Masters degree on neuropsychology and require internships and where students participate and conduct research and clinical work in the field. Most jobs in the field of neuropsychology require a doctorate. Doctorate programs ranged from length of time they take to obtain the degree, around three to seven years. At this level it is highly focused on clinical and research practice, with time spent on different types of subjects. The patient evaluation is done by a team of neuropsychologists and can last up to a few hours. Other doctors refer many patients, then the neuropsychologists then review the patient’s file to determine why they are here. Then they interview and discuss with the patient their medical history and how the illness or disease affects them. A psychometrican then gives the patient a neuropsychological test and then they score the test and then neuropsychologists study and interpret the data that the psychometrican gathered from the patient’s test.
