Anywhere the eye can see; it is likely that an advertisement is present. Advertisements appear all over the world, whether it is seen on a billboard, television, computer, cell phone, or even malls. Many elements contribute to the overall influence that an advertisement can have on an audience. In the January 2012 issue of Seventeen Magazine, Neutrogena places an advertisement for their Oil-Free Acne Wash – Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser, which was particularly creates to capture the attention of girls. In the advertisement, it appears that the facial cleanser is right next to a grapefruit with water splashing. The background is white, while the facial cleanser and grapefruit are in the center. The facial cleanser is present in the color pink with mainly white writing while the grapefruit is orange on the outside and pink on the inside. It is shown in the colors pink, orange, and white in order for the product to stand out. The product is mainly pink, which symbolizes a sense of a feminine and cleanlier feel. It also represents how the Oil-Free Acne Wash is a female product, which will encourage the young consumer to purchase it because of the particular color. The picture of the grapefruit splashing into the water would be a way of how the female consumer would want their skin to feel. The young consumer would not want their skin to feel dull and oily, but rather rejuvenating. The grapefruit gives a feeling of nature and how the skin is used with natural products, like fruit, while the splashing of the water demonstrates how the product will cleanse the skin.
