The New Deal was a set of actions that Franklin Delano Roosevelt wanted to see the United States of America carry out during the Great Depression. The Great Depression was a time period in the United States of America when the stock market collapsed due to the banks running out of money. When this occurred, some people lost all their money. However, some people were still in debt, which caused others to be in debt as well. This caused economic failure throughout the nation. Will Rogers stated that “ten men could buy the whole world and ten million can’t buy enough to eat.” Also, one in four people were unemployed (Source B). This caused the banking crisis to worsen. Based on the evidence of texts, multiple organizations were created to try to reduce unemployment. Some examples of these organizations were the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), and the Works Progress Administration (WPA). The CCC gave jobs to young men of the age of 18-25 in the outdoors. These jobs included a pay of $1 a day with food and board. These jobs would include planting trees, building dams, and fighting forest fires. The WPA also gave jobs to build schools hospitals, and post offices. They also provided professional jobs as teachers, actors, and artists. Artists would paint pictures buildings. They also build playgrounds, parks and airports. In the end, 120,000 buildings were made and 500,000 miles of road were paved for future generations. This connects to my claim because these jobs improved society by building new things that are used by today’s people, and they helped conserve the environment in some jobs. Also they improved the economy because people would get money to buy consumer goods, which would open up more jobs, and eventually lower unemployment
