New Orleans is best known for a lot of things great food, great atmosphere and who can forget the parties, however, people in the Big Easy were staying out late and rocking for a whole different reason in 1919 as the Axeman of New Orleans had a special request that rocked the Big Easy. let's start from the beginning, the Axeman was a serial killer who struck New Orleans from March 1918- October 1919. This killer was sickeningly good he left little to zero evidence at the scenes, he entered the victim's homes using their own tools and injured or killed them with their own ax. He seemingly struck at random which meant that no one was safe from the killer's ax, the only real thing that was consistent was in his victimology. The fact that almost …show more content…
Some people questioned this because the way that the killer entered the homes was through a very small opening which sprouted our first theory. Some people believed that the axeman was not a man at all but some kind of demon that came for vengeance, this theory was supported when a newspaper/media station received a letter from a man that claimed to be the Axeman. The letter that was sent was very frightening as the first header from the sender started with the word and date “Hell, March 13, 1919” and addressed the reader as “Esteemed Mortal.” From the article by an author on CFI Blogs (Charles Ford Institute) which copied the full page of the letter the first addressing words are,” They have never caught me and they never will. Rosie and Charlie Cortimiglia and their two-year-old daughter were believed to be some of the axeman’s victims. The killer got into the base floor of there store through his normal fashion and got up to the loft above where the family resided, he killed the daughter whose name was never released from a blow to the back of the head and he severely injured the girl's parents. Rosie after recovering mostly from her injuries was forced by the investigators to sign a document implicating her neighbors because of the lack of evidence to incriminate anyone else. The two men that were accused were the father Orlando Jordan and his son who was 17 years at the time Frank, they were put on trial for murder and assault and after only a week they were both found guilty. The father was sentenced to life without parole and Frank was sentenced to hang and was put on death roll. According to the article,”The Axeman of New Orleans preyed on Italian Immigrants” it states, “When Iorlandoc and Frank went to trial for their lives, the only evidence against them was Rosie’s identification, an identification that even her own physician thought was unreliable.” they were in jail for 9 months before Rosie went and recanted her story and after
