Brooklyn has been known to be more than just a borough. It has been known and accredited for being a community of peers. Despite the difference in areas, and environment Brooklyn is a place where people intend to look out for one another. However, some people had their own beliefs about Brooklyn itself and felt only “Poor people live in Brooklyn” (Mehta, pp1) however this is not the case. Just as Adam Bonislawski’s article “Is the New Brooklyn Economy For Real?” stated that the “New Brooklyn Economy” was in fact a place where it welcomed the passion driven, tech savvy and entrepreneurialism of the new era.

There has been a lot of changes throughout New Amsterdam history. In 1609 until the year of 1664 there has been dramatic changes in history that has brought the country together in unity overtime. During this time in history many explorers had sailed across the ocean in hopes of discovering something that no one else had before. One such explorer was Henry Hudson, who went on an expedition to find a faster route to supplies that he and other people in the New Netherlands needed. Hudson made his first voyage from England in 1607 where he then tried to find a “shorter route around to Asia from Europe and through the Arctic Ocean” (History, 2009).

Leading to another story “Here is New York”, E.B White’s view on the story displays how the city is full of gifts of opportunity such as privacy and loneliness but with these many gifts, there is no true definition to describe the city. I agree with E.B White’s view of New York, there can be a different definition depending on who you are and what you desire in this city that never sleeps, there can never be a settled meaning. I was born and raised in the city of Chicago, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Everyone from my father to my mother’s side of the family lives here, so if I suddenly leave to live in a different city, I would lose a big part of where I came from. The Big Apple was the capital for those seeking work in America, opportunities to change the lives of anyone, and to give the chance for anyone to follow their dreams. People from all over went to the magical state of New York, from the ex-slave states of Louisiana, Alabama, and Georgia; to the free states of Ohio, Oregon, and Iowa a lot of people wanted to go to New York just like today. New York, home to Broadway Theater, home to the roots for many music genres we still listen to today. So much of our culture came from just New York alone. Some ex-slaves, free men and women, were drawn to New York because of all the famous artists and the potential they felt there.
Atlantic City was once the powerhouse of the east coast raking in tourists, large sums of money, and monopolizing the gambling industry. Nick Paumgarten wrote “The Death and Life of Atlantic City”, which states “The casino closures in Atlantic City have contributed to the loss of nearly 10,000 jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics” (102). Four out of the twelve casinos closed which contributed to 8,000 of those jobs. Three of the remaining casinos are currently facing bankruptcy which contributes to the other 2,000 people left jobless. The question Atlantic City is faced with a matter of needing more gambling or less?
Miami and New York both are wonderful places to visit. New York, it is one of the most populated cities in the U.S for their large buildings and Miami is one of the state most popular vacation spots. Although there are several similarities between Miami and New York, there are many obvious differences between them in their economy, entertainment, and cultures. New York and Miami are well known for their economy. Living in Miami or New York is extremely luxurious.
There were abundant dystopian aspects of New York City in the 1980s, when crime, crack and AIDS produced a perfect storm of anxiety about the fraying social fabric. At the time, New York was experiencing a record crime wave (in 1989 the city averaged 36 murders a week) and fear pervaded the city. The Central Park Jogger case was a perfect vehicle for that fear, and the media pounced. In 1989 things were very different from contemporary times with a stop and frisk. On an average week over 30 people were killed in a week.
A city is a good place to continue the further education and to find a suitable job. A city can provide government facilities to its people which makes easy to sustain the life and to perform the task. In addition, the city may be regarded as a relatively permanent concentration of population, together with its diverse habitations, social arrangements, and supporting activities. Cities might differ in cultural aspects and from other types of human settlement and association. Today I am comparing and contrasting my hometown, Kathmandu and the city I am living in, Colorado.
