The New York Yankees organization began in 1901(New York Yankees History)At the time the team was known as the Baltimore Orioles(New York Yankees History). The team would then become the New York Highlanders in 1903 until 1912(New York Yankees History). In 1913 the team became known as what it is today, the New York Yankees(New York Yankees History). The team today is owned by the Steinbrenner family and it's home is Yankee Stadium in the borough of the Bronx. In 1901 the Yankees were the Baltimore Orioles(New York Yankees History). In 1996 the Yankees, under manager Joe Torre, would go on to win their 23rd World Series title(New York Yankees History). This time it was different. This team was led by four rookies, more commonly known as the "Core Four"(Phil Pepe). This team was led by a rookie shortstop, Derek Jeter, starting pitcher, Andy Pettitte, catcher, Jorge Posada, and reliever, but soon to be closer, Mariano Rivera(Phil Pepe). These four rookies would go on to lead the Yankees to four more World Series Titles after this. The Yankees would defeat the Padres in four games to win their 24th World Series Championship(New York Yankees History).
