I chose Newman University to prepare me for nursing. This institute stands out to me, for they prepare their students to be a diverse individual. Newman educates their students to be knowledgeable about their field, but also have an understanding of other disciplines. Newman prepares their students to become ambitious critical thinkers and thrive in leadership roles. They educate and develop their students to provide exceptional care. I am pleased to be a student of Newman University and I will continue my education at this institute. I believe I would be a valuable asset to the nursing program, for I have the motivation and desire to continue learning the fundamentals of nursing. It takes hard work, teamwork, dedication, and proficiency. Working along side my mother I learned to rely on one another to solve problems. Communication is essential between you, your co-workers, and the patients you care for. To this day, I truly enjoy going into work in the morning and helping residents get ready for breakfast and their daily activities. Working as a nurse aide has inspired me to continue my education in nursing and eventually have a career as a nurse. I took the next step and got my medication aide certification and have been working as one for two years at an assisted living facility. It is a different environment, but I gained some experience while working there; these skills will help me in my future nursing endeavors, which will allow me to become a valuable asset to the medical …show more content…

Having a resident or anyone in the process of dying is difficult to process and accept. Working as an aide my coworkers and I had to hold back grief and accept we are close to losing someone we had grown to love and care for as our own. I believe the nurse’s job is tougher, they must hold back grief and at the same time maintain professionalism, while being strong for the patient’s family members. I worked alongside residents that were close to the end of life. I provided comfort medications to relax and ease the pain they were suffering. Family members appreciated the nursing staff for caring for their loved ones, knowing that they were not alone in that process. It was a good feeling to have, that I made a difference in someone’s final hours. These experiences never get any easier, but it allows you to be strong for those who can’t. I was sure this was something I could do with the understanding that it’s not easy and I would encounter several similar situations. When you work as a nurse you have a closer relationship with the patient than a doctor. You understand their needs and wants, and do your best to accommodate them. You have to accept the losses, be strong, healthy and most of all balance out
