12 children of southern California were found shackled and of pour health, ranging from the ages of 2 to 19 in their parents’ home. The parents David and Louise Turpin were booked January 15 after being discovered holding them captive. The discovery was made by a 17-year-old girl who had escaped Sunday morning and called the cops. The cops found all 12 children in the house who seemed to look much younger than they actually were because of mal-nutrition. When the parents were questioned they had no response to why they restrained they children in such a horrible manner. Thought is learned overtime and experience. Character is a result of habituation and repetition (Aristoteles, pg. 18). Habituation and repetition is key in this story, the parents started with their first child not giving them proper nutrition or freedom that it causes them to do it with each child after. Repetition becomes learned and seen as right after a while that the parents have begun to believe that what they were doing to their children was considered right and just because that is what they have always done. They wanted to treat all the children the same, as said in the article the parents have no response as to why they tied they children up and barely feed them. The parents become accustomed after a habit had formed that they have no answer to why it would be considered wrong. “For what we are doing our dealing with other people makes some of us just, some unjust; what we do in terrifying situations, and the habits of fear of confidence that we acquire make some of us brave and others cowardly (Aristoteles, pg. 19).” In this situation the parents were considered unjust, there actions to other their children were hurtful and could’ve cause them sickness or death. Going to Vegas to renew their vows would’ve also causes pleasure not only did they love each other but with the kids around they felt pleasure because they “looked” happy to society. “Some seem to have better beliefs but make the wrong decisions because of vice (Aristoteles, pg. 34). As stated before the parents had a good belief that marriage was important and so was having children, renewing their vows and being seen in public, but with theses good beliefs vice comes into effect.
