The NFL’s downward spiral. Football is one of America’s greatest pastimes. Watching a game on Sunday is about as American as grilling cheeseburgers on the Fourth of July. Sunday is a great time to relax and watch a game from home with a cold beer. But for some reason, the NFL is becoming less and less entertaining for people. Whether people think that the NFL is simply becoming less fun to watch, people are bored of seeing the same teams always at the top, or the NFL is becoming more obsessed with earning money than caring about their fans, the NFL is not appealing to people. One possible reason for the downward spiral is that football’s becoming less fun to watch. Without a subscription, one person can see five games every Sunday. For example, if someone lives in Washington, he or she will usually see the two local teams of each league at 1:00 P.M., like the NFC’s Washington …show more content…
Nowadays, one can count the amount of Super Bowl worthy teams on his or her finger. Without Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and the Patriots are almost guaranteed a Super Bowl appearance. The NFC is much more of a race to the Super Bowl, but that race is between three teams that are always in the playoffs anyways. In the regular season, most games are between two uninteresting teams, or sometimes uninteresting teams play great teams. Once again, not great football to watch. Another problem is that football is a slow-moving game, but the clock runs down so quickly that one touchdown can take one eighth of a game to score. In basketball, the scoring is so quick that it can keep you invested in close games. In soccer, teams barely score at all, so each goal is much more important than each touchdown in a football game. In football, the scoring isn’t fast enough to keep people focused on a long drive, and it isn’t slow enough to make the actual scoring matter as
