Having the positions as an Orientation Leader and First Year Seminar Fellow, and my extra-curricular activities as Treasurer of the International Honor Society in Education and a member of Phi Mu Fraternity are preparing me to pursue a graduate degree, particularly a doctorate degree in Education, because I am building my skills to be persistent and think critically. These are both essential skills to have because obtaining a graduate degree is rigorous and I will encounter many obstacles along the way. Through my experiences, I am also strengthening my skills as a leader, which includes my ability to advocate for myself, and others, and pursue my passion. This is a broad area, but I believe this is the purpose of education and this is the most important aspect to focus on. As of now, I am intrigued with Growth Mindset and Grit. Once I have completed my study in India and published my work, I am not positive where I will be drawn to study next. I may have new questions about Growth Mindset and Grit, or I may find another area in education to focus on. I am further developing my interests by reading articles in my free time about new educational research and asking questions about aspects that have not been answered. I also attend various lectures to learn more about research and new information. I recently attended a conference for the International Honor Society in Education to help grow the chapter at York College. While there, I learned a myriad of information, including mindset, poverty, and culture. I hope to continue to learn new information and further develop my interests by attending more conferences. Additionally, I am improving my writing skills by visiting the Writing Center at York College and exposing myself to articles by authors with doctorate degrees.
