The author, Nicholas Carr accurately writes about “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” Carr states various ways that the Internet is negatively affecting our brains. He explains how people growing dependency on technology. He claims that the Internet is a resource that can be used for anything including reading and learning. Carr said, “Never has a communications system played so many roles in our lives-or exerted such a broad influence over our thoughts –as the Internet does today” (231). Carr is saying that this new method of communicating is changing our lives in ways that we do not even realize. For many years we only had the telegraph and then the telephone, which was part of our culture for 90 years—but it was for talking only. Today, Google and computer hardware allows us to hear, see, and learn almost anything in seconds. For example, I am now able to communicate with someone across the world without leaving my house. Through the use of social media and email, this has made such possibilities much easier. This is true because technology is running my life every day even though I do not anticipate that Google is using my cell phone to spy on me. Information once contained in massive volumes at libraries or in private collections is now available by typing words into a search engine and clicking search. It has made doing homework much easier, but what happens if the computer crashes or, even worse, the Internet goes down? In college I use Blackboard and Aleks which is a popular software for math classes. Without the Internet access, I could not do my homework. I also worry that people could not function without the use of the Internet or Google. People, including myself, use Google every day, and Google, along with a combination of all other technologies available, is actually becoming essential to everyday
