• I chose the article called “Nick+Jay: A Love Story” written by Bob Batchelor.
• The article is found in Gatsby: The Cultural History of the Great American Novel.
• The author, Bob Batchelor, is the founder editor of the Popular Culture Studies Journal of the Midwest Popular Culture Association and also an editor for The Journal of Popular Culture.
• Bachelor obtained his undergraduate degree in History, Philosophy, and Political Science at the University of Pittsburg. He received his master’s degree in American History from Kent State University. He earned his doctrine English literature at the University of Florida.

• Instead of the novel being surrounded by other people’s lives it is more focused on Nick. Instead of being on the outside looking into Gatsby world, he becomes it. He then answers phone calls for Gatsby about his business and tracks down Wolfs Hein. There is quote that expresses Nick’s emotions towards this, “I found myself on Gatsby’s side, and alone.”
• After Gatsby death, the relationship between nick and Gatsby becomes a main topic. So much so, he feels a need to write it all out.
• He feels he needs to set free the record of Gatsby due to it being “a nightmare- grotesque, circumstance, eager, and untrue.”
• Due to Gatsby death he able to express his love for Gatsby in a new light since Gatsby is not right by him. Since such a statement would be too much for Nick and his midwestern ways and worldview.
