The chapter “Nickel and Dimed” discuss how unskilled workers are living in the modern society of America. They live by hope and want to live properly like others. However, it may be a dream for them because they already know their wages are always very low. Although, they are working to update their living style, living condition, also, they want to eat better food. In the passage, the woman started her job at Hearthside with $2.43 an hour plus tips which is way too low. Tips were beneficial for her because tips were the extra money that could cover the meals, gas and other little things. It was really tough to do two jobs at the same time because unlimited work affects health condition. She had back pain and she did not get chance to take a rest. So, if they become sick or make any mistake, then they do not get the second chance to be in that job. America is very difficult for them to survive. America is a country where people come to change their destination. People spend lots of money to be in this country. Even though most of the people are educated back to their country, but they can not do anything with that degree in America. So, when they get to know this fact after coming here, then they decide to do any kind of job. They think they will lose so many years to get education.
