Dazed and Confused is a movie that takes place in Texas during the mid 70’s. It shows the life of a typical teenager during this time as some are entering their last year trapped in high school or some entering their first. Their morals and ways of thinking differ to now a day severely, but their actions then vs now show some similar characteristics. The time period that the movie takes place in has major differences than today’s society. For example, a fourteen year old kid was able to walk into a liquor store and purchase alcohol like it was nothing.
The film “Half of Anything” directed by Jonathan Tomhave was centered around a series of interviews with four different people of different backgrounds, who all identified as Native American. He asked these four interviewees the question “What is a real Indian?” This was a challenge for each person to answer in the fact that a “real Indian” meant different things to each one. For instance, the first interviewee, Christina, believed that there has to be a true definition of an Indian and that it meant more than just having a card and being enrolled in something, it takes moral responsibility. Another interviewee, Sherman Alexie, discussed that, while he saw being Indian as part of a person’s personal identity, the world seemed to identify Indians

The late 19th century consisted of rigid work hours for children, the growth of strikes, and the use of yellow journalism. It was a challenging time for anyone below the upper class to live in. This is demonstrated throughout Newsies, a Broadway Musical displaying the challenges from this time period. Child labor, a major part of the movie, was the way of life and consisted of young children doing hard work as a vital part of the nation’s economy and income of families of the time. Another part of the movie, strikes, were the people’s way of refusing to work as a result of not getting their desires.
The film 13th directed by Ava DuVernay targets an intended audience of the Media and the three branches of the United States government with an emphasis that mass incarceration is an extension of slavery. It is intended to inform viewers about the criminalization of African Americans and the United States prison boom. 13th uses rhetorical devices in its claim to persuade the viewers by using exemplum in the opening seconds of the film. President Barack Obama presents statistics, saying “the United States is home to 5% of the world’s population but is home to 25% of the world’s prisoners.” Also the film uses a hyperbole in talking about the movie Birth of a Nation produced in 1915 which portrays a black man as a violent savage who will kill white women.

In the novel “Thirteen Reasons Why” and the movie “The Way, Way Back”, a person of power ostracizing the protagonist leads to the feeling of alienation. Alienation is the state of being isolated from a group that one should belong. I believe that that the novel Thirteen Reasons Why and the movie The Way, Way Back both relate to this theme but with different perspectives. In the movie “The Way, Way Back”, his mom’s boyfriend, Trent, and his peers constantly put down the protagonist, Duncan.
As I sat on that rainy Saturday afternoon at the movie theater, suddenly a wave of nostalgia washed over me. I sat there watching the movie production that Fathom events had put on which was the Broadway production of Disney’s Newsies. Fathom events is a company that puts on entertainment events like operas, musicals, and concerts and displays them for one night only in movie theaters. I had forgotten some of my favorite musical numbers that Newsies had. As I sat there watching the scenes unfold in front of me, I realized that there’s a lot that one doesn’t see when their eyes are fixed on the screen.

As I watch HBO’s new show Ballers. I soon begin to grow to like the Rocks character in the show, But when I first saw the trailer for Ballers, I was both excited and let down. The show seemed to be similar to HBO’s other bro-comedy, Entourage, which at first glance, Ballers was going to take on the same plot line of being extravagant lifestyles of people we only know in the world we live in today, with a feel-good ending for the main character. But the Hollywood-NFL comparison falls apart in one major way: one in six NFL players goes broke after retirement.

My favorite movie is Expelled. This movie makes it my favorite because it is very relatable. It makes it better than other movies because Cameron Dallas is the lead role and he is a really good actor. Expelled shows how a prankster highschool boy can make good use for his tricks by catching the teacher that has the most hatred for him, in the middle of a crime. I could watch this movie over and over again and it would never get old.
