History of Nickelback Nickelback is a Canadian band originally formed by the Kroeger brothers (Chad, Mike and their cousin Brandon) and Ryan Peake in 1995 in Hanna, Alberta. The band consists of and lead guitarist/vocalist Chad Krueger , rhythm guitarist/ back up vocalist Ryan Peake, bassist Mike Krueger and drummer Daniel Adair. The band is commonly known for playing post-grunge rock, in reference to its roots and influences from Seattle grunge in the early 1990’s. However the jagged rawness of early Nirvana and Pearl Jam is missing in this band’s later pop-accented offerings. The band is now based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The band went through a lot of drummer changes between 1995-2005 with the current drummer replacing Ryan Vikedal. …show more content…

The band achieved commercial success with the release of the album in 2000 and then achieved mainstream success when the released their album Silver Side Up in 2001. They then release their biggest hit “How You Remind Me” which reached number 1 on both the American and Canadian charts. The band then release their third major album “The Long Road” which included another five major hits to strengthen their mainstream success already achieved with the song “Someday” peaking at number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the Canadian Charts. This success was followed by their biggest album to date “All The Right Reasons” which contains 3 top 10 songs and 5 top 20 songs on Billboard’s Hot 100 which included Far Away, Photograph and Rockstar. The album Dark Horse released on 2008 produced 8 successful tracks with one peaking at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and two reaching the top 20 of the Billboard’s Hot 100. Chad Kroeger was born Chad Robert Turton, to Wendall Turton and Debbie Kroeger. Windy Turton was a “badass”, according to Chad, and enjoyed getting into fights and punch-ups. He left the home when Chad was two, leaving Debbie to raise Chad and his half-brother, Mike Kroeger. Chad later adopted his mother’s maiden name. They had a troubled childhood, as Chad was alternately in “juvie” and on the run from the police. His mother was in a rehabilitation programme when he was 14. He sold drugs and stole trucks, shoplifted for food and Metallica concerts, witnessed a suicide and had to testify in court in relation to a murder across the road. Hanna was an oil town with less than 3 000 people and not much else. The Kroeger brothers formed a cover band called The Village Idiots for want of something to do, and played Led Zeppelin and Metallica covers. When the boys moved west to Vancouver, things weren’t any better. Chad got a job selling seafood door-to-door; he then leased a five bed-room house, which he then rented out to college students.
