Today the idea of sex, often found in our unconscious thought, extends into our conscious minds—why, simply because of our environment. Nowadays the extensive amount of sexual stimuli creates conscious pathways that lead to the main idea of sex. The most common stimuli we encounter almost everyday is music, particularly the Hip-Hop and R&B genres extending to Pop from the 21st century. Although artists started pushing the envelop and began singing and rapping about sex earlier than the 2000s, just recently has the exploration of attitudes related to sexuality become more prominent. Women, especially have become the center of this sexual attention, including a female rapper who proudly owns her sexuality—Nicki Minaj. In this single, Nicki described women as being sexual beings and being able to control men through sex. She raps “And when we done, I make him buy me Balmain” insinuating that after sex, Nicki is able to control her lover and get what she wants. Further Nicki creates the belief that all women are into their sexuality as much as her and makes all women seen promiscuous. “Anaconda” hints at sexual encounters between Nicki and two exes throughout the song but one isn’t totally aware of what is going on until viewing the video. As confirmed by Billboard, Nicki’s “Anaconda” video “smashed Vevo's record for the most views in 24 hours, racking up 19.6 million clicks in the first day of its release.” The video is filled with many sexual innuendos starting off in the beginning with a coconut and coconut milk dripping from it, and further to have bananas on a record that continuously spins.
