Nicki Minaj born as Onika Tanya Maraj was born December 8, 1982. She was born in St. James Trinidad. She moved to New York when she was 5 years old. Minaj grew up with an abusive father. Some point in her life Minaj father attempted to kill Minaj mother. Minaj said she always had a female empowerment in her mind. She wanted her mother to be stronger and she knew her mother shouldn’t take this nonsense. To reach this point she eventually developed personas for herself to cope. At the age 12, Minaj sought out to rap. She then went on to acting at La Guardia High School of Music and Art. Minaj was decided she wanted to make music as her career. She started singing backup in the area for rappers. Eventually she began writing her own music. She was noticed by guy named Fendi. He was the CEO of Dirty Money. He went online to Nicki’s Myspace page. He loved her style and signed her quickly to the label. This linked her to current rapper Lil Wayne who put her on a variety of mixtapes.
