It was traumatizing and excruciating concentration camps that killed millions. However, there were people that lived, they are known as the Holocaust survivors. Unfortunately, some refuse to admit the Holocaust ever happened, these people can be known as deniers. The people that open our eyes to the Holocaust, like Elie Wiesel, end up doing the opposite of what the deniers do. People such as Elie Wiesel, who wrote the book The Night, which is an autobiography about him and his father going through the concentration camp known as Auschwitz. It is here that they experience things like starvation, gassing, abuse, and loss. His novel speaks of these brutalities and the questioning of faith between him and his father. From here it can be assumed that many survivors experienced these things, and other novels from Holocaust survivors such as The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, prove this. It shows that the Holocaust was something that broke the Jewish spirit, and because of this, these survivors deserve recognition for their courage and suffering. However, a slew of anti-semitic people claimed that the trauma and beatings performed in the camps were not as bad as others say, some even deny it completely. One prominent Holocaust denier is famous historian David Irving, who was exposed for the false claim that there were no gas chambers in Auschwitz, a large and prominent Jewish concentration camp. According to auschwitz.org, French professor Robert Faurisson was banned from teaching because he denied the Holocaust existed. These people spread misinformation about the Holocaust and damage our history, which is a danger to the awareness and recognition of the Holocaust and its concentration camps. All of these people and factors are what give us the information about the Holocaust and its brutality. Without authors like Elie Wiesel, we wouldn’t know what the inside of the concentration camps looked like. Without the survivors, we wouldn’t have as many people to look up to for courage, bravery, and endurance. Without the deniers, we wouldn't have a clue on what the Nazis had going on in their heads; maybe they truly thought they were doing the right thing. In conclusion, the Holocaust is a piece of history that is not meant to be forgotten, in hopes that this form of genocide will one day
