1. The documentary on Nike Sweatshops: Behind the Swoosh portray that workers still do not receive a just compensation. In fact, they receive a terrible pay for the arduous labor they render. While it is true that workers need work, it is unjustifiable to say that without their work, they would have a lower standard of living primarily because under the ethical practices in business, business ethics are used as guidelines for the company to have a conscious effort in treating people with respect, as well as to establish a positive working environment (Root, 2017). Nike's ethical dilemmas include its poor environment for its workers. In Vietnam, thousands of factory workers went on a strike because of their low wages and poor working conditions (Mail Online, 2015). This did not only happen in Vietnam, but also in places where Nike factories are located. For example, in Asia, Nike exploited workers for financial gain. At first, Nike did not pay attention to the rights of workers because one of its competitive advantages is keeping low costs. However, this resulted to a massive wave of protests which affected the image and reputation of the company (Mail Online, 2015). It is very unethical to pay employees lower than what they deserve most especially if they have worked for long hours. Other than that, it is worthy to consider that when employees are not paid with the sufficient salary, they may harm the company because their dissatisfaction may result to a lower productivity rate. Since 2011, Nike has endeavored activities to improve the conditions of poor working environment and unjust compensation. For one, Nike is blunt with its mission in transforming manufacturing level by changing how the company works, who it works with and what it expects from its partners (Nike, Inc., 2017). From this statement alone, it can be said that Nike s after the creation of equitable and empowered workplace. Moreover, the company now recognizes that there is a need to innovate the role of its workers. Nike now embraces the notion that one of the kyes for growth and sustainability is having a skilled, valued and engaged workforce (Nike, Inc., 2017). Not only that, Nike is also dedicated to engage its workers to healthcare, education, and finance networks to ensure that it creates a positive change to its workers not only when they work, but also outside their workplace (Nike, Inc., 2017).
