A Perfect Mind in an Imperfect World Many people think about the technologies of the future, but very few are right about their predictions. Nikola Tesla had an extraordinary imagination, he created whole machine blueprints in his head and even invented the basis of our electrical system. Tesla imagined several technologies that we have today, such as smartphones and x-rays. Tesla often suffered financially, being more of an inventor than a savvy businessman. Although he had to overcome many obstacles, Tesla still used his imagination to create many important technologies involving electricity. Even though Tesla invented several devices and important technologies, he still ran into many obstacles both in early life and later. One …show more content…
When Tesla was a young boy,he created a propeller by glueing or stitching may-bugs to a piece of wood, together, they could spin the propeller(Seifer 8). He made a hang-glider and jumped from the roof, it ended badly and Tesla was in bed for six weeks healing(Seifer 8). When the firemen were demonstrating their new firehose near his church on a Sunday after worship, it did not work, yet Tesla instinctively knew to jump into the nearby stream from where they were pumping the water to unkink the equipment(Seifer 12). He was almost punished by his father for ruining his Sunday best to unkink the hose, but a blind eye was turned from the incident since Tesla saved the day(Seifer …show more content…
When Tesla was older, had an idea to create a hovercraft like device, which resembled a Corvette in the blueprints(Seifer 332-333). The hovercraft would work by using a giant wind turbine that rested in the underbelly facing down, and blow air towards the ground therefore causing it to hover by riding the air current(Seifer 332-333). From the years 1893-1898, Tesla invented several oscillators, and creates his own ingenious device for extinguishing the sparks that would come flying off of the oscillators(“ Nikola Tesla” 1). One day, Tesla was describing some of his ideas to his funder and business partner J.P. Morgan, he told him of a device that gathered stock quotes and telegram messages, then, after they were funneled to his lab , he would encode them and assign them to a frequency(“Nikola Tesla” 1). That frequency would then be broadcast to a device that could fit in your hand, essentially, Tesla had envisioned smartphones and wireless internet( Jacobson
