Although there are many famous physicists, Nikola Tesla is beyond all. Nikola Tesla, the famous physicist that dominated the world of physics, was born on July 10, 1856. Tesla was born in what is now called Smiljan, Croatia (“Nikola Tesla”).
Nikola Tesla was one of five children born to his mother Duka Mandic, and father Milutin Tesla. Tesla had five siblings who were Dane, Angelina, Milka, and Marica. Tesla’s mother, Duka Mandic, ran the family farm and cared for her children. His father, however, was a Serbian Orthodox priest. His father wanted him to also be a priest, but Tesla had an interest in another profession. Nikola Tesla was utterly engrossed in the works of science. He found it so riveting that he was devoted to making that become his profession. Nikola Tesla helped his family on the farm they owned. In 1863, Tesla’s brother, Dane, was killed in a riding accident. This catastrophe startled Nikola and changed his life forever starting a life long mental illness (“Nikola Tesla”). Tesla also invented the first alternating current motor and developed AC generation and transmission technology. Tesla later developed a rival known as Thomas Edison, another famous physicist and inventor. In the 1890’s, Tesla created many inventions such as electric oscillators, meters, improved lighting, and a particularly famous invention that he invented. This invention is known as the Tesla coil, a high voltage transformer. Tesla partnered with General Electric installation, installing AC generators at Niagara Falls to make the first modern power station. In 1895, however, Tesla’s lab in New York caught on fire and burned everything inside, including all the notes and equipment he has been working with for years.
