AC/DC High Voltage Rachel Lyon English 122-343 Professor Edwards 31 January 2018 “The present is theirs; the future, for which I really worked, is mine.” Nikola Tesla, inventor of the alternating current motor. Many would describe Tesla as a man of the future. Although at times he came off as unconventional, he was a genius. He was determined to create a new life with his inventions. Tesla had a rough start, however, through a show of tenacity, he went on to change everyday lives with his invention of the alternating current motor, and inspire a new future for everyone. At the age of 28, Tesla arrived in America. He arrived in New York...with four cents in his pocket, a few poems and remnants of his belongings. Even though Tesla did not have much in his pockets, his brain had enough to get him to where he needed to be. Tesla had already been working on an AC motor for years. He had everything he needed to bring his invention to life, except money. Experience in business was something that Tesla did not have. Seeking out support as a young inventor was difficult. However, Tesla had one man in mind that he hoped would solve all his problems. That man was Thomas Edison. Edison had …show more content…
With Tesla’s new invention, electricity was becoming more efficient and wider spread. Westinghouse was able to land one of the biggest contracts for electricity at that time with Tesla’s new A.C. power system. The Westinghouse Corporation won the bid for illuminating The Chicago World's Fair, the first all-electric fair in history. From that point forward more than 80 percent of all the electrical devices ordered in the United States were for alternating current. This demonstration allowed people to see just how much electricity could change and light up their lives. A new era of technology was just beginning, and so was Tesla. He had so many more ideas, and there was much more he had to
