In the poem, “No Assistance,” Ntozake Shange writes about the struggle a woman goes through with recognizing that she is in a one sided relationship. Not only is this shown by the woman’s words, but also with the specific tones she uses. The title, “No Assistance” is the woman stating that she no longer needs her partner anymore because they weren't any help at all. She also says “this was an experiment, to see how selfish I could be” this is the woman rejecting the idea that she is being used.
