The No Child Left Behind Act had its strengths and it had its weaknesses. This Act had a clear vision behind it. The No Child Left Behind brought positive change to some of the nation’s most troubled public schools. The heart of NCLB was about accountability. When teachers and schools failed they cried unfair. Why should we give billions of dollars to schools with no expectation of a return. It would be as if you got a nice high paying salaried job but had no goals, no performance requirements, and just sit back to collect money without having to perform. NCLB did have an unrealistic goal of 100% proficiency by 2014 but it was supposed to be reauthorized by 2007. It also should have measured growth instead of proficiency. It was designed to
