Throughout the novel, symbolism is a significant aspect of how fate is depicted in No Country for Old Men and fate is present in the lives of the characters portrayed in the film. The most significant character seen throughout the film is Anton Chigurh the antagonist. The most significant representation of fate is through the utilization of a coin determine whether individuals who encounter him live or die, where Anton puts the fate of the victims to the will of the coin. The coin represents the notation of fate as seen when Anton interacts with a gas station proprietor and Carla Jean.
