In chapter two of the novel, the boys try to start a fire and that fire burned down the mountaintop, habitats, homes of the animals that live there. By the end the mountaintop burning, the boys did not realize that one of their friend was in the fire and that friend was one of the ‘littluns’. In chapter twelve of the novel, the remainder of the boys that are not dead are in tribes.

If girls were in The Lord Of The Flies they groups would be more organized, they would have been less savage, and they would have been able to maintain life on the island. Throughout the entire book the boys on the island had a huge problem with organization. The were unable to have a leader that they could constantly keep and follow, and on top of that the boys were put in social classes based on age not ability . If girls were on this island there would be some sense of togetherness and organization.
This event in the book shows how fear and the evil that lives inside everyone can overcome one's morals and control oneself. “Simon's dead body moved out toward the open sea.” (PG187) The boys all contributed towards Simon’s death and left him to float out to sea. In conclusion, William Golding’s “Lord of the Flies” could have been significantly changed if he had decided to include female characters.
