Jeff Chang, the author of Can’t Stop Won’t Stop decided to place this chapter in his book because he wanted his readers to know the story of DJ Kool Herc as the one who got hip-hop started and tell them how he did it. Kool Herc was essentially the father to hip-hop as he was the one who introduced the roots to this new type of music that was never heard before. Jeff Chang introduces the early life of DJ Kool Herc in the beginning of the chapter. He was born Clive Campbell and moved from Jamaica to the Bronx when he was 12 with his family. He got his musical influence by his dad who was a soundman for a local rhythm and blues band, and by his mom who brought him to house parties as a kid in the Bronx.
This is a book of friendship, strength, inspiration, passion and courage . The friend hip is shown when uncle benny took over the house and even slept over lucas house to make sure him and his mom where safe and not in need of anything while lucas dad was in the hospital. The strength and inspiration was shown when on the way to football on the first day, Lucas didn't feel confident and ready for a challenge but he looked at uncle benny and he said “you can do this”. Those 4 words gave Lucas strength and inspiration. Passion was led to be seen when Lucas didn't want to quit for nothing football even if he was in danger of having brain damage due to all the concussions he had had.
This book is a coming-of-age novel because, throughout the story, Daunis’s mentality dramatically shifts; she becomes wiser and more knowledgeable. There are three main things that set off this change: handling grief, working undercover, and learning to move on. Overall, these things shape Daunis on her journey to adulthood. Daunis needed time to mourn before she could grow. Toward the novel's beginning, Daunis stated that her uncle died in April.
The author uses the story of Sylvia Likens, a young girl who was mistreated and killed by her foster mother while the rest of the children
The novel Scar boys by Len Vlahos finds the power of friendship and times of hardship, emphasizing the importance of finding strength in each other. It follows the story of Harry, a young man who is struggling to find his place in the world and the group of misfits he meets along the way. While reading this novel I realized that there are themes of resilience and hope, showing that in times of distress,it is feasible to find fortitude and bravery. The survivor is an archetype for Harry who has overcome trouble and is determined to get the most of his life. He is strong willed.
I went through the difficulties like Stargirl and have a story of my own. It speaks to me about being myself .You should love everyone not for the outside but the content of their heart. After I read this novel it made me think about how special every individual is. It gave me the idea about not changing who you truly are for other people, thats what makes us all different. We all have different personalities and perspectives towards everything, and the world would be a boring place having everyone looking and acting the same way as one another.
The novel’s protagonist, Janie Crawford, a woman who dreamt of love, was on a journey to establish her voice and shape her own identity. She lived with Nanny, her grandmother, in a community inhabited by black and white people. This community only served as an antagonist to Janie, because she did not fit into the society in any respect. Race played a large factor in Janie being an outcast, because she was black, but had lighter skin than all other black people due to having a Caucasian ancestry.
It’s like when you watch a rerun of your favorite television show as a kid and suddenly understand jokes you would’ve never gotten when you first watched it. That is why I would choose this book to memorize. It is one that kids can read and have a fun time doing so, yet when they mature to adults, they can understand its true message and
(Maas) This book is a little more on the mature side of young adult literature, the sexual content being more explicit and descriptive than normal. I think this is for an older audience 16 and up. A book
It revolves around the flight of the princess to escape the awful marriage to his father (Perrault, 1977). Charles Perrault uses the princess’ character to reveal the major themes of overcoming evil, child abuse and incest in the story. Perrault also brings out the moral that it is better to encounter awful challenges in life than to fail in one’s duty. He shows that although the virtue may seem unrealistic, it can always triumph. The author uses various literary devices to reveal the various morals of the story.
The brilliant and telling novel is worth buying for young Australians and comes highly recommended so go out and buy a copy
It taught me that strength and perseverance can make a significant impact in life. I also learned that forgiveness and the ability to forgive is much more powerful than I ever realized. This novel sucked me into the story and its characters and took me on an emotional ride of highs and lows. Finally, it forced me to reevaluate my previous judgement of the homeless.
Trapped. Nowhere to go and no one to turn to. You sing. But does your song really reach anyone? If you ever felt this way you certainly would have felt like the birds in these poems.
With the novel being read from a ‘twelve’ year old whose history motivates his understanding, perception and interpretation of the events he encounters and interprets to the reader,
