No Hero: The Evolution of a Navy Seal No Hero: The Evolution of a Navy Seal was written by Mark Owen with Kevin Maurer in 2014. Mark Owen was born in 1976 and grew up in Alaska. He is formally a member of the SEAL Team Six, also known as US Naval Special Warfare development group. He served several years as a SEAL and has taken part in many missions around the world. His most recognizable mission was Operation Neptune Spear on May 1st, 2011, which led to the death of Osama bin Laden. He was one of the first SEALs to enter the terrorist’s secret hideout, where he saw the death of the bin Laden before his eyes. Although the book made it to the #1 spot on the New York Times best seller list for several weeks in a row, it was revealed that the real author, Matt Bissonnette, was writing under the pen name “Mark Owen”. In August of 2016, the US federal government demanded that he returned the $6.8 million dollars from the book’s profit. While this book is highly controversial, Kevin Maurer, the featured author in both No Easy Day and No Hero, revealed in an article on the Huffington Post that the goal of the book was to give it’s readers the opportunity to experience the mission with “America’s best”, referring to the SEALs that took part in the attack. Although Maurer does not play as significant of a role as Owen does in No Hero, he has a story of his own as he has written several books that cover the military. It is a follow-up to Mark Owen and Kevin Maurer’s book No Easy Day. The purpose of this book was to let the reader experience the first-hand account of what goes into being a Navy SEAL and the many lessons that resulted from it. The chapters of the book are organized by lesson, which are the main topics covered in the book. The titles of the chapters include each of the following moral lessons: purpose, confidence, fear, stress, mind-set, trust, communication, relationships, accountability, discomfort, evolution, and compartmentalization. The events that occur in this story cover a widespan on time, from Mark as a young boy in later 1970s to 1980s and eventually him as a Navy SEAL in the 2000s. The story begins by revealing Mark’s desire to become a SEAL at a very young age in the 1980s. It was known about his dreams by nearly everyone in his small hometown in Alaska because he wore a shirt that had the Navy SEAL symbol on it nearly everyday. The story goes on to explain Mark’s journey to become part of the military. He first attended a conference in DC, where he met his first Navy SEAL.
