No Witchcraft for sale In No Witchcraft for sale Gideon’s role in the Farquars house, he is a African American slave who works in the kitchen! He becomes friends with the farquars kid Teddy but as Teddy gets older he can't really hang out with him as much. Teddy is outside and he is riding his scooter as a snake on the roof spits in his eyes and he can become blind. Gideon leaves to do find a plant that will cure him so that he will not go blind. Gideon saves the child and Teddy does not become blind. A doctor shows up wanting this cure but Gideon does not want to give him the secret and feels betrayed. Three messages from No Witchcraft for sale are helping someone without wanting something in return, betrayed, and finally disbelief No Witchcraft for sale talks about helping someone without asking for anything in return. “This will cure little yellow heads eyes” (Pg 1331) “Mr. and Mrs. Farquar went to Gideon in the kitchen and thanked him over and over again” (Pg 1331) Gideon was happy to help the Farquars out but didn't ask for anything they told the family that he was a really good doctor for them maybe not as good as their doctor but good enough for them. He feels betrayed because he doesn't want to give the white doctor the cure not because he is selfish but because he doesn't want to give everything he knows to the white man. He wants to keep something from his culture sacred something that still belongs to him. He wants the Farquars to stop the doctor from asking questions but all they do is push the issue.
