After reading “Noah Count and the Arkansas Ark”, by Gary Blackwood, readers can see that the author demonstrates the value of education and that the narrator’s point of view regarding his family’s lack of education changes throughout the story. In “Noah Count and the Arkansas Ark,” the author demonstrates different attitudes towards education from the narrator’s point of view, the narrator feels that he needs a good education to succeed at anything in life, he also feels that his family has a lack of education but towards the end of the story he realizes that his family may not be as clueless as they seem.

In paragraph 1 it states, “As best as I can recall, it all started when the cat sneezed.” Following paragraph 1, paragraph 2 states, “Rain a-comin,” the narrator’s granny says. In paragraph 9 it states, “Wisht they’d a-built her a foot or three higher,” the father of the narrator is talking about the levee that separates their farm from the Mississippi River. Because the father feels that the levee will break when a big storm comes he build a huge raft to float his family, livestock, and important belongings such as food and clothes. Everyone around town thinks that the father is foolish and the begin to call the raft he is building an ark and the nickname him Noah count, but instead of believing the things the other people say the narrator begins to realize that maybe his father is right. In paragraph 15, it says that the narrator woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of thunder and the feel of rain blowing through the open window, this shows that all his family members were right.
