Non-Monogamous Relationships In Romantic Movies

In many romantic movies there have been examples of non-monogamous relationships between characters. In many romance movies, most of them directed at young adults, there are characters that have been in many relationships or characters that have multiple relationships at the same time. It is not the ideal relationship to expose to young adults. Movies that show these non-monogamous relationship include, “Scott Pilgrim vs the World”, “John Tucker Must Die”, “The Other Woman”, and “This Means War”. Young adults need to be educated on healthy relationships because of the portrayal of non-monogamous relationships in the media.

In the movie “ Scott Pilgrim vs the World” Scott has to defeat Ramona’s seven previous partners, all while he himself is in a relationship with another girl named Knives Chau. When he sees Ramona in a dream he immediately loses interest in Knives and later breaks up with her after meeting Ramona for real. This movie is a great example on why we need to teach young adults about monogamy and the dangers of non-monogamy. Since John was in a relationship with the three girls he hurt all of them and when they found out they started to fight. This type of relationship should not be taught to young adults, it is unhealthy to be in a relationship with different people, especially if they do not know about the other people you are in a relationship with. A good lesson from this movie is that it shows young adults not to be like John Tucker because throughout the movie he is constantly being punished for his
