World War II (WWII) is a very common topic discussed in high school english classes mainly due to the facts that WWII is a perfect example of good vs. evil in the real world and there is an endless amount of books written about this tragic era in history. Two examples of these type of books are Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken and Elie Wiesel’s Night; and like all of the other WWII books, these two address themes about the hardships of war and how hope is always present. One specific theme that these books support is that in war, there will always be peace; this is shown through elements of faith, happiness, and trauma. To begin, the two main characters of the books Unbroken and Night face a struggle with their individual faiths, but in very different ways. Louis (Louie) Zamperini initially was not the most religious man but when faced with the most dire of situations he turned to God repeatedly for help and counsel.
“Night” Essay I bet that you wouldn’t want to be in the position the Jews were in during the holocaust. “Night” by Elie Wiesel was published in 1985. This book tells us all the stuff that Elie went through during the holocaust and on, about how bad they were treated at the time. Some ways the Jews were being dehumanized was that they were forced to watch people getting hanged, they tattooed numbers as their new name and some even killed their own family members.
During the course of the semester in my History 395 class we have read three historical monographs that covers a wide range of ordinary people in history. The first monograph we read was The Return of Martin Guerre by social and cultural historian Natalie Zemon Davis. The book covers a historical event about a 16th century French man named Martin Guerre who had his identity stolen by Arnaud du Tilh, and the reactions of the village and “his” family. The second monograph we read was Neighbors by political historian Jan T. Gross. The book is about a massacre in the small Jewish town of Jedwabne, Poland during World War II.
Unbroken, a biography on the life of Louis Zamperini written by Laura Hillenbrand illustrates his experience as a POW in Japanese camps during WWII. During his time readers are heartbroken after realizing the disgusting nature of the camps. The treatment and what the guards forced prisoners to do shocked readers as well as how the camps Zamperini were in violated laws and twisted the role that camps were supposed to play during times of war. During WWII POW camps played huge roles in the aspect of war as well as in the lives of the prisoners and their families back home.

Night Essay Prompt In the book Night, written by Elie Wiesel, he recalls his past experiences as a Jew during the Holocaust. Night by Elie Wiesel is the first book that would be saved because it tells about the Holocaust, has great examples of emotional appeal, and is one of the best, if not the best, example of a historical tragedy. Telling about the Holocaust is the most important aspect of this book, as the Holocaust continues to be one of the worst historic tragedies in the world. The easiest way to prevent a similar occurrence from happening is by never letting it be forgotten in the first place. This book would be memorized to make sure that it would not be forgotten and hopefully prevent it from happening again. Reading this book makes the reader realize just how fortunate he is/was to not live during that time period, and also helps one understand just how
