During the early 15,000’s a wealthy English man, Sir Walter Raleigh requested that the Queen granted him permission to gather a crew and head on an expedition to discover new lands in Northern America.
New evidence found at Hatteras Island and Cape Creek, North Carolina proves that this theory has the most merit and is the most probable thing to have happened. In North Carolina, archeologist, Nicholas Lucchetti’s team found an iron bar with a large copper block that's likely from the 16th century not presumed to be Native American origin because they lacked the metal technology at the time. Using x-ray spectroscopy, a map drawn by John White that indicates a small, red and blue, four pointed star under a white piece of paper used to cover it up was also found. The map was drawn in 1585, two years before White became governor, in 1587. The spot was 50 miles inland, and most archaeologist believe site asked was the original destination for the colonists.

As we have seen, the introduction of Christianity to the Vikings had significantly contributed to the end of the Viking Age in mid 11th Century, not only due to the persuasive Christian missionaries, and the realization of the benefits of Christianity, but also the forcible nature of Scandinavia king’s conversion of their subjects (which will be looked into in more detailed in due course). The Old Norse Religion or Norse Paganism were practised traditions by the Norsemen prior to the Christianization of Scandinavia, dating as far back to roughly 793-1066 CE. This religion was separated, and categorized into three different families; the Æsir, Vanir and Jotnar; these were all polytheistic groups. The Æsir tribe contained some of the best-known Norse Gods and goddesses such as Odin, Thor, Frigg, Tyr, Loki, Baldur, Heimdall, Idun, and Bragi1. These Gods represented kingship, order, craft, etc. The Vanir were Gods and Goddesses such as Freya, Freyr, Njord and the Germanic Goddess Nerthus.
Skyclad is a word that has one very specific definition. It can be broken down quite simply into the two words of “sky” and “clad”. To be clad means to be wearing something so to be skyclad therefore then means to be clad in nothing but the sky. In other words, it means to worship in the nude. After researching this term I felt quite foolish as I realize now how much of the term is simply contained in the name!
Although persecuted by the Church centuries ago, Norse mythology has survived and continues to amaze people. The practice of the viking religion is still practiced in parts of Germany and Scandinavia in present day. In Norse mythology, there are the Aesir and Vanir gods, along with many other beings. The stories of Norse mythology still have effects on the modern day.
