The North and South emerged as two distinct regions because they had various differences. These differences included the geography, the economy, climate, societal norms, and transportation methods. These differences substantially affected their identity and how each region functioned. One of the most striking difference between the North and South was the climate and geography. For example, in the North, the climate was colder than the south. This made it difficult to cultivate crops and livestock. In addition, the geography was also hilly and more mountainous. This made it difficult to get around in horse drawn carriages. In the South, however, the climate was warmer. This made it easier to grow crops and raise animals for trade. Furthermore, the terrain was flatter. The land therefore was easier to navigate, and there wasn’t a huge need for steam engine locomotives.
