Explained in this report will be why the University of Northern Iowa and Starbucks are a great fit for each other and how their values align while still be extremely profitable. Starbucks is a rapidly growing company that has made great strides in recent years. They have not only been tremendously lucrative, with an operating income of almost 4.2 Billion dollars in the past year, but also have numerous social outreach programs. These programs overlap well with the core-values of the University of Northern Iowa, also known as UNI. These values are academic freedom, access, accountability, collaboration, community, diversity, engagement, excellence, and sustainability. One thing that UNI and Starbucks value most is community. UNI’s view on community is, “a caring and safe community, characterized by civility and respect, which stands in solidarity against any actions that exclude, discriminate against, or silence members of our community”, according to their website at uni.edu. Starbucks has a very similar view on community. There are several implementations that they are continuing to pursue to improve their community and care for those around them. Starbucks has partnered and built relationships with many non-profit organizations. The purpose of this is to create new pathways of opportunity for the next generation in communities around the world.
