Creating strong morale and team spirit is important for things to run smoothly at Northfield. In order for staff to buy in and be enthusiastic about the program they must know WHY we do what we do- Why are the policies in place and how it sets us apart from the competition and allows us to be a leader in the senior living community. A clear explanation of the impact each employee has on our resident’s dignity and how they provide person centered care is important to convey to PALS. With a clear understand of what exactly they are doing for our residents will help guide them to doing the right thing. I would review our mission statement and what our company stands for with all staff. The mission statement will be posted in common staff areas for daily reminders what Northfield strives for. To help with open dialogue, I would first have all employees complete a personality test. There are 4 distinct personality types – Once they see each co-worker’s personality description and the way he/she handles and views situations, everyone will have a better understanding of each other leading to healthier communication. Everyone wants to feel like they belong to something or to fit in. I believe that setting daily and monthly goals can help foster a sense of teamwork when they work together to reach a common goal. Conducting group activities such as joining the ALZ walk as team, community service activities, and award ceremonies can give them some form of belonging to a team. There is a stigma attached to memory care. The AL/IL PALS don’t want to come down to memory care and vice versa. It’s important to have a memory care team but overall we are all Northfield- We are one. We need to be supportive of each other and share the experience. I think many PALS in the neighborhood feel as if they are forgotten about or that others don’t know what exactly they have to deal with day in and day
