The Northwood idea is drowning and is losing relevance. Let me share with the reader that my title is very somber and my dialogue should be sobering, I would also interject that I am not creating assumptions with the idea presented by Northwood are good or bad, moral or immoral, I would dialogue with the reader that Northwood expresses principles and those principles are founded on the ideas of moral law balanced with the idea of justice. The way that this question is phrased you may be led to believe that there is a question surrounding the relevance of the Northwood Idea. I would argue that it is more relevant than ever before, supporting my statement I would suggest an example of how the Northwood idea is occurring in a humane business example in west Michigan, the change created by the entrepreneur and importance of the business that it created in our community. To begin I do not have enough paper to share all the stories occurring in west Michigan, I can share one great story of philanthropy, seven years running the city of Grand Rapids has been host to a festival called ArtPrize, for 19 days a 3 mile stretch of downtown plays host to thousands of artists and tens of thousands of visitors form all 5o states and increased local business revenue in the millions. This was all from the idea of Rick DeVos one of the many grandchildren of Rich DeVos, Rich is best known as billionaire partner of the international business called Amway. The whole concept of ArtPrize from Rick was to bring art back to his hometown in a way that was never seen before, where the business in the city became one large art exhibit, and the community benefited from the blending of business and …show more content…

It’s great that we have an example in west Michigan of ArtPrize, and what Rick has done is an excellent example of giving back to the community. I’d argue the idea of implementing ArtPrize Rick DeVos had the flair of entrepreneurship with the characteristic of vision; however unlike other entrepreneurs he didn’t really personally risk anything, risk faith in his venture from family or partners, or minimally have to suffer any hardship to see his vision succeed. Reviewing the principles of the Northwood idea one may argue that the, “Emphasis on Work and Thrift” that money could have been spent differently to invest in a culture of art for the city rather than a large once a year prize. Examining the importance of business and reading many of the interviews with Rick DeVos on the internet and social media, the hostility can be felt with the disdain from Rick as a business man from the thousands of comments trying to vilify his families success, this is a sign of weakness from the local community who choose not to see the value or importance of business or the businessman, the Northwood idea is
